Whole steaks of yellow fin tuna in olive oil. YELLOW FIN TUNA (Thunnus albacares / Yellowfin) is a large fish, measuring up to 2 meters in length and having a maximum weight of around 2 quintals. It is recognized by the long anal fin and the sickle-shaped second dorsal fin while the pectoral fins are short. Due to the very evident yellow shades, in Atlantic countries it is called Yellowfin tuna. Reproduction occurs in the summer period and to reach the breeding areas the species also makes long migrations. Yellowfin tuna is a highly migratory pelagic species and is widespread in all tropical and subtropical seas with the exception of the Mediterranean.
