•50x30 cm in size • made from soft and sustainable raffia • perfect for the dining table or as a decorative element • lovingly packaged plastic-free • 100% handmade and fair trade With the rectangular Kuara placemat made of raffia, you can create a tropical atmosphere on your dining table.   It is knotted by hand in elaborate detail using the complicated needle technique.   The fine material is robust, yet soft and flexible.   The generous dimensions of 50x30 cm leave more than enough space for plates and cutlery.    Kuara is available as a set of 2, 4 or 6. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------- Mass weight: Length x width: 50x30 cm Weight: 0.18kg per piece Our products are artfully crafted unique pieces.   Due to hand manufacturing and natural variations in materials, they may vary slightly in size, color and shape. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------- Main material: Raffia Our placemats are made from plant fibers.   They therefore smell and feel wonderfully natural.    Raffia (Corypha utan) occurs naturally in the steppe and forest areas of Southeast Asia.   The plant renews its leaves about every two years and sheds the old ones, which are then collected by people, dried in the sun for a few days to weeks, depending on the desired degree of browning, and processed into woven goods.   The relative rarity and the higher processing effort make this material slightly more expensive compared to other plant fibers.   While it is hardly known here in Europe, the material has proven itself among the local population in Southeast Asia in the form of all sorts of everyday objects and is very popular due to its pleasantly soft, yet robust texture. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------- Place of production: This placemat is handmade in Java, Indonesia.   When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions.   Only adult and experienced artisans work in the companies from which we purchase our goods.   No harmful chemicals are used during production.   Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process hardly produces any greenhouse gas emissions.   We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.
