MGANDO: Dusky Pink Tie-Dye Woven Shopper

MGANDO is a tie dye woven shopper made from Kenyan sisal, in earthy tones of baked tile and dust. With its twisted sisal carry handles, this carry-all is leather free. Use yours as an everyday handbag with room to pack for overnight stays, grocery shopping and trips to the gym – they come in two handy sizes. The women who produce these woven shoppers are led by chairlady Mbeti who set up this weaving group single-handedly. She now leads twelve weaving groups with over thirty weavers in each group – virtually all of them women who have been taught this precious, income-generating craft by their mothers and grandmothers. Resourceful Mbeti has managed to build a weaving centre with her savings, and it’s from here that she runs the business, stores materials and supplies, and collates completed orders for shipping.
